About Us

The #Focus5 project provides free, unique, one-to-one support to young people aged 15-18 across Devon, Plymouth, Somerset and Torbay, who need help taking small steps into education, employment or training.  The four main outcomes of the project include; understanding the skills employers look for, improving readiness for employment or training, increasing self-awareness and an understanding of individual strengths and identifying solutions to any potential barriers.

Who Can Benefit?

Applicants should be able to display a desire to learn, engage with their key worker and empower themselves to make progress.

The project is aimed at helping socially isolated young people who are not in education, employment or training (NEET) or at risk of becoming NEET. For those currently within education we look at those who are struggling or isolated from their educational environment.

More information on exactly who can access the #Focus5 service can be found on our online referral page.

What Support is on Offer?

#Focus5 key workers get to know the young people and together they create a bespoke plan of activities to meet immediate and long term goals or aspirations.

This can be anything from opening a bank account, learning about financial independence, navigating public transport, creating a CV and applying for jobs, finding training opportunities, mentoring, support with returning to education or developing life skills. It also often involves opportunities to simply talk and build confidence over a coffee, or a walk in the beautiful countryside.

Support can be anything that helps young people towards education employment or training, as long as they show a commitment to engaging with the project.

We also have funding available to cover childcare costs for any young parents wishing to return to education or employment.
